KUPWARA, JANUARY 15: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Farooq Ahmad Khan today visited border district Kupwara. During the visit, the Advisor convened separate meetings with PRIs including DDC Members, BDC Chairpersons and District Officers in the meeting hall of the District Administrative Complex Kupwara. The Advisor also reviewed the developmental scenario of the district and Covid containment measures.
Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Kupwara, Irfan Sultan Pandithpori; Vice Chairman DDC, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir; Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Imam Din; DDC Members and BDC Chairpersons attended the meeting.
Vice Chairman DDC presented the welcome address.
All the DDC members and BDC Chairpersons apprised the chair about the development profile of their territories including the issues faced by the people.
Addressing the meeting, the Advisor said that Government is committed to provide equitable development of all urban and rural areas like Kupwara district, adding that the people of Kupwara have a firm belief in the democratic institutions. He said that during the elections, Kupwara district always keep a record of good polling.
Emphasizing the Panchayati Raj System, the Advisor said that more and more powers are being provided to public representatives including urban local bodies and the administration is being made accountable for the works being executed. He said the PRI system is totally pioneer which is empowered and always receives special attention of the Government.
The Advisor stressed upon both PRIs and officers to work in a coordinated manner to ensure overall development of the district.
The Advisor said that the aim of his visit to the border district Kupwara was to assess the situation vis a viz snow clearance, power supply, water and food supplies.
Farooq Khan said that he is satisfied with the progress shown by various departments including PDD, R&B and PHE for timely restoration of essential services after recent snowfall in the district.
On the occasion, the Advisor provided account kits under PM Cares For Children scheme to 3 children whose parents (father & mother) had died during Covid-19.
Chairman DDC Kupwara, in his address welcomed the Advisor about his visit to Kupwara and apprised him about the developments and issues faced by the people of the district.
Vice Chairman DDC also spoke and put forth developmental issues before the Advisor.
The Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, in his address apprised the Advisor about the development profile of the district.
Later, the Advisor convened a separate meeting of District officers and took a detailed review of progress of various departments including PDD, PHE, R&B, FS&CA, Health and RDD.
Reviewing the Power sector, the Advisor was informed that all the receiving stations are working normally in the district.
The Advisor was informed that snow has been cleared on major roads and work is in progress on border roads of Keran and Jumagund which shall be through by tomorrow evening.
Reviewing the Covid mitigation efforts, the Advisor was informed that 97 Covid cases are active in the district and the district has currently 98.23% recovery rate with 0.23% positivity rate. The CMO Kupwara also informed about the sufficient availabity of essential drugs in the district.
Later, the Advisor met various delegations who called on him during the visit and apprised him about their local issues. These delegations include Presidents of Traders Federation Kupwara & Handwara, President ASHA workers associaition, International Gujjar Sabha, Teachers Association AGS Wayne. The Advisor heard them patiently and assured them that their genuine issues will be taken up and resolved on priority basis.
