Srinagar, Apr 08: Amid pandemic, colleges and higher educational establishments in Jammu and Kashmir will continue academics via offline mode, the government said on Thursday.
Commissioner Secretary to government for Higher Education Department, Sushma Chauhan said that there was no proposal or dialogue in the pipeline with regard to the closing of colleges and higher educational institutions of Jammu and Kashmir.
“As of now there is no such proposal of closing the higher educational establishments nor the Higher Education Department is in any such discussions with the government pertaining to the matter,” Chauhan said.
She further said that in the coming days, nobody is very sure as to what will happen, “but I am not a part of any such conversations with regard to the closure of higher educational institutes in Jammu and Kashmir.”
Chauhan said that in order to ensure adherence of COVID-19 SOPs, the Higher Education Department is conducting frequent testing of students and in a college as if student or a staff member is tested positive for COVID-19, we close the particular institution for 48 hours as a part of the recommended Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
“In order to follow the prescribed COVID-19 SOPs in colleges, we are ensuring that the colleges here function shift wise so that the particular number of students in one batch maintains the social distancing and other SOPs as well,” she said.
Pertinently, the colleges in Kashmir valley opened on February-15-2021 after more than 11 months following the outbreak of COVID-19 in March-2020.
