On the occasion of Army Day 2021, 15 Rashtriya Rifles Battalion, Vilgam organised ‘Vilgam Village Games Festival 2021’ on 15 Jan 2021. Village Games Festival was organised for the people of villages of Ramhal, Rajwar and Magam block to bring life back in their lives in this cold freezing weather. The festival witnessed the huge turnout of 1500 local Kashmiris and Gujjars along with 50 COVID Warriors (ASHA Workers) and village Panches and Sarpanches. Ex- Servicemen of the area also participated in the event. Wreath Laying was done by the Ex-servicemen at the War Memorial of the Battalion to pay tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for their motherland. The Games Festival was inaugurated by the Commander 8 Sector Rashtriya Rifles, Brigadier Neeraj Sharma by lighting up the Beacon of Unity. The musical afternoon set the right pace for the event in which many local singers mesmerised the audience with their soulful voices. Total of 21 village games like ‘Piddu Garam’, ‘Spoon Race’, ‘Gilli Danda’, ‘Arm Wrestling’, ‘Wushu’ and ‘Karate’ were organised in the festival for kids, youth and the elders of the villages. Panches and Sarpanches also showcased their strength in the game of Tug of War breaking all the barriers of age and proving that age is just a number. After the games, Mrs Priyanka Sharma felicitated the frontline warriors of COVID-19, ASHA Workers for their selfless contribution during the pandemic. Brig Neeraj Sharma awarded the winner of the village games with prizes. In this event along with entertainment and games, books were also distributed to the NEET, IIT and NDA aspirants to encourage them to excel in the competitive exams. The Medical Camp was also organised during the festival for the routine check-up of the villagers. Block Medical Officer, Vilgam was also present in the event and provided his esteemed service during the medical camp. In the end Commander 8 Sector Rashtriya Rifle addressed the audience and conveyed his thanks to the Awaam of the Kashmir for their support to the Indian Army and assured the Awaam that the Indian Army will always be readily available for them in all good and odd times.
