POONCH, AUGUST 14, 2024 – In a significant move to preserve the rich historical heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territory (UT) government has approved the restoration, preservation, and maintenance of the iconic Poonch Fort. This decision aims to revive the region’s glorious past and promote local heritage.

The approval was granted during a meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, where several projects focused on reviving local heritage were discussed and approved. The Poonch Fort, a testament to the region’s glorious past, will undergo a comprehensive restoration process.

District Administration Poonch has already taken steps to enhance the fort’s beauty and attractiveness by removing encroachments and unauthorized constructions and giving the fort a facelift. The proposed restoration work will prioritize maintaining the local ethos, culture, and aesthetic appeal, ensuring the fort’s historical essence remains intact.

The restoration project is expected to contribute significantly to Poonch’s overall development and progress, further strengthening its position as a prominent tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. The restored fort will showcase the region’s rich history and cultural significance, attracting more visitors and boosting local economic growth.
