Kupwara, Aug 7; In a significant initiative under the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada 2024, the Department of Social Forestry Division, Kupwara in collaboration with the District Administration Kupwara, on Wednesday organized a plantation drive on the theme “Ek Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam” “Ek Ped Ma ke Naam” in the premises of Galizoo Sports stadium Kupwara.

On the directions of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ms. Ayushi Sudan, the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kupwara, Mohammad Rouf Rehman led the plantation drive by planting a tree in the premises of Galizoo Sports stadium.

The event aimed to honor the sacrifices of martyrs of the Nation by contributing to environmental sustainability through tree plantation.

The plantation drive also witnessed the participation of 6 NOKs of Martyrs from different areas of Kupwara district besides Range Officer Social forestry (Kupwara Range) and other officials. NoKs of martyrs also planted trees contributing significantly to the greenery and serving as a tribute to the nation’s martyrs.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner, on the occasion, emphasized to honor the sacrifices of martyrs of the Nation and stressed for significance of trees in maintaining ecological balance, purifying the air, and supporting wildlife. He asserted the need for collective efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainable development. He highlighted the crucial role of trees in supporting human life and the need for their conservation. He has also appealed to the people to come forward and join the drive to make Kupwara district a greener and more sustainable district.

It is in place to mention here that ‘Project One Tree’- “Ek Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam” is a movement aiming to mobilize every Indian to plant a tree as a measure against climate change. This marquee movement seeks to raise awareness about environmental conservation and foster collective action towards a greener, more sustainable future.
