Police arrests 05 drug peddlers in Pulwama, Anantnag

Anantnag, August 03: Continuing its crackdown against the menace of drugs, Police arrested five drug peddlers in Pulwama & Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party of Police Station Pulwama at a checkpoint established at Washpora Murran Pulwama, arrested a drug peddler along with 02 bottles of contraband like substance. He has been identified as Manzoor Ahmad Dar son of Gh Nabi Dar resident of Washpora Murran. Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 135/2024 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Pulwama and investigation was initiated.

During investigation, following the evidences & on the disclosure of arrested drug peddler, raids were conducted at multiple locations, resulting in the recovery of 66 bottles apparently containing codeine phosphate. Consequently, two more accused persons were arrested who have been identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir son of Gh Nabi Mir and Liyaqat Nazir son of Nazir Ahmad Lone, both residents of Murran. Further investigation of the case is in progress.

In another action, a police party from Police Post Newa at a checkpoint established in Karewa, Nowpora Nagam arrested a drug peddler. He was found in possession of 06 bags (76 Kgs) of poppy straw-like substance and a digital weighing machine, carrying in his vehicle(Ford Figo) bearing registration No. DL10CF 2319. He has been identified as Jalal-u-din Sheikh, son of Gh Mohd Sheikh, resident of Wampora Nagam, District Badgam. Vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.

Meanwhile, Police in Anantnag after receiving reliable information that an accused person involved in drug peddling has hoarded contraband substance at his residence, a team from PS Aishmuqam along with concerned Executive Magistrate raided the place. During search, approximately 5.3 Kgs of poppy straw was recovered from the residence of Abdul Hafiz Masoodi resident of Iram Colony, Aishmuqam, who was subsequently arrested, and the contraband was seized. A case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act stands registered at PS Aishmuqam and further investigation is going on.

People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law.
