BARAMULLA, JUNE 05: The Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), in collaboration with various stakeholders including the Indian Army, Hotelier Club Gulmarg, IISM Gulmarg, Allied Departments, Service Providers, and local students marked ‘World Environment Day’ with a series of impactful activities aimed at preserving the natural beauty of Gulmarg.
The highlight of the celebration was a mega cleanliness drive that commenced at the Main Market of Gulmarg and extended to the Children’s Park. Over 300 volunteers, comprising students, service providers, officers/officials of civil, police, Army, and local organizations, participated with enthusiasm, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining Gulmarg’s ecological balance.
Chief Executive Officer Gulmarg Development Authority, Waseem Raja spearheaded the cleanliness drive and emphasized the importance of community involvement in environmental preservation. He urged tourists, hoteliers, and service providers to join hands in making Gulmarg completely polythene and plastic-free, emphasizing the collective responsibility we all share in safeguarding the environment.
Continuing the momentum, the celebrations will extend to June 6 with a Cyclothon and the Gulmarg Green Conclave at the Indian Institute of Skiing and Mountaineering (IISM). These events aim to promote eco-friendly practices and raise awareness about environmental issues among participants.
The Gulmarg Green Conclave will feature discourse and presentations on topics such as sustainable tourism, waste management, and conservation strategies, offering valuable insights and solutions to address environmental challenges.
