June 5, 2024: On the eve of World Environment Day, the NSS unit of GDC Surankote in collaboration with the Department of Zoology concluded its five-day eco-conscious workshop with a significant field visit to Dana-Shahsatar. This initiative was designed to evaluate the impact of deforestation on soil erosion highlighting the critical need for environmental conservation.

The field visit was flagged off by the Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rani Mughal who emphasized the importance of practical learning experiences in environmental education. A diverse group of students from various semesters eagerly participated in the tour gaining valuable insights into the real-world consequences of deforestation. The students were guided by a team of distinguished faculty members, including Prof. Fateh Mohammad Abbasi, HOD Zoology, Prof. Fatima NSS Program Officer, Prof. Mohammad Jahangir HOD Urdu and Prof. Adnan Ali Shah HOD English, Dr. Basharat Ali lecture Botany.

On the eve, Professor Fateh Mohammad Abassi highlighted the critical role of plants in mitigating soil erosion. He also emphasized the importance of various plant species in combating different types of environmental pollution and discussed the impact of humans on altering the environment as well as the local flora and fauna.

During the visit, the primary objective was to conduct a thorough assessment of how deforestation contributes to soil erosion in the Dana-Shahsatar area. This hands-on training allowed students to observe the direct effects of human activities on the environment.
