The Handwara Police District continues its vigorous campaign against illegal mining activities within its jurisdiction, striving to safeguard natural resources and preserve environmental integrity. A comprehensive report covering the period from November 2023 to May 2024 highlights the district’s unwavering commitment to this cause.
During this time frame, a total of 170 vehicles involved in unauthorized mining operations were seized across police district Handwara. The breakdown of seized vehicles includes:
HANDWARA: 118 vehicles comprising 6 tractors, 15 tippers, and 5 JCBs were confiscated, resulting in fines totalling 1,579,292 rupees.
QALAMABAD: 33 vehicles, predominantly tippers and a JCB, were seized, with fines amounting to 394,296 rupees.
VILGAM: 2 vehicles were apprehended, leading to fines of 22,706 rupees.
KRALGUND: Enforcement efforts resulted in the seizure of 17 vehicles, primarily tippers and JCBs, with fines totalling 361,148 rupees.
In addition to the vehicle seizures, the handwara police registered a total of 12 FIRs related to illegal mining activities during the specified period, emphasizing the gravity of the offense and the stringent enforcement measures in place.
The police handwara along with Mining Department, fines collected as a consequence of these actions amounted to a substantial sum of 2,357,442 rupees, reinforcing the district’s commitment to deterring illegal mining practices through punitive measures.
Furthermore, the Handwara Police District acknowledges the invaluable support and cooperation of local communities in reporting illegal mining activities, which has been instrumental in the success of enforcement operations.
The police district handwara reiterates its resolve to continue the fight against illegal mining and calls upon all stakeholders to join hands in preserving the environment and upholding the rule of law.
