Local figures honor his contributions to Pahari language and culture

Karnah Kupwara:Today, April 14th, 2024, marks the fourth death anniversary of the esteemed actor and artist Mohammad Maqbool Khan, celebrated for his remarkable contributions to the Pahari language. Khan, who departed this world on the same date in 2020, is being fondly remembered and honored in a ceremony held at his gravesite in Lontha Karnah.

 

The commemorative event is a somber occasion, with attendees offering prayers for Khan’s eternal peace and seeking forgiveness for his departed soul.

 

Mohammad Maqbool Khan’s journey in the realm of arts began during his tenure in the Police Department’s CID Wing in Jammu. However, his true calling beckoned when he was later transferred to the Cultural Club in Tongdhar in 1974. It was here that Khan’s talent flourished, captivating audiences with his enchanting voice and captivating performances.

 

Throughout his illustrious career, spanning from 1973 until his passing, Khan became synonymous with Pahari traditional folk songs and dramas, portraying iconic roles that resonated deeply with the Pahari community. His ability to infuse humor into his acting endeared him to audiences far and wide, earning him widespread admiration and gratitude.

 

On this poignant occasion, various local figures affiliated with social, political, and literary organizations have come forward to express their heartfelt condolences. They acknowledge Khan’s pivotal role in championing the Pahari language and culture, emphasizing the need to preserve his legacy for future generations. They underscore the importance of nurturing and encouraging upcoming artists to draw inspiration from Khan’s artistic prowess, ensuring that his contributions continue to enrich the cultural tapestry of the region.

 

As the ceremony unfolds, attendees reflect on the enduring legacy of Mohammad Maqbool Khan, whose spirit lives on through his timeless performances and enduring impact on Pahari arts and culture.
