Poonch: Today marked the commencement of the National Deworming Day in District Poonch where Project 3C: Converging Children’s Concerned expands in Poonch where a total of 198,000 children were targeted for deworming. The event witnessed active participation from various health institutions, government and private schools, madrasas, and anganwadi centers.

The inaugural ceremony took place at Govt. High School Ajote and AWC Sheesh Mahal Poonch, where the Additional District Development Commissioner Poonch, Sandesh Kumar Sharma (JKAS), inaugurated the event. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Zulafkar, along with the Chief Education Officer Poonch, Bishamber Dass, and the DPM Unit NHM, were present on the occasion.

A second inaugural function was conducted at Madarsa Zia ul Uloom and private School Hakia Poonch, led by the respected ADC Poonch, Tahir Mustafa Malik (JKAS). The Deputy Chief Medical Officer also accompanied him. During these ceremonies, Albendazole tablets were administered to children between the ages of 1 to 19 years.

To ensure comprehensive coverage, a mop-up round has been scheduled for March 18, 2024, which will serve as a means to reach any children who may have been missed during the initial implementation.

National Deworming Day aims to protect children from parasitic worm infections, promoting their overall health and well-being. By administering Albendazole tablets, the initiative seeks to tackle the prevalence of worm-related diseases in the district.

The event also covered far flung areas. For instance , a special event was organised at Govt middle school Mandi which witnessed massive response from public. Similar exercise was organised at various locations aimed at creating mass awareness .
