SHOPIAN, DECEMBER 23: The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Shopian Saturday organised an awareness programme at Sunshine Public School, Kanjiullar.
The programme aimed to address the issue of gender inequality and declining sex ratio.
DHEW team, while addressing the gathering, said that Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative is to address concerns of gender discrimination and women empowerment in the country.
The name Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao translates to ‘Save the girl child, Educate the girl child’. The initiative aims to educate citizens against gender bias.
The team further said that the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao aims to achieve the goals to improve the child sex ratio, to ensure women empowerment, prevent gender-bias, sex selective elimination, ensuring survival and protection of the girl child and to encourage education and participation of the girl child.
The programme was attended by Awws, Asha workers, NRLM, SHG members, and locals.
