KULGAM, NOVEMBER 29: A meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was today held at Nini-Secretariat, here under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to the incidence of drug addiction, certification of Nasha Mukt Villages as per norms, hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curbing the menace of drugs.

During the meeting DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures being taken to control the Drug addiction and rehabilitation of addicts in designated treatment and rehabilitation centres.

He said that efforts with cooperation, coordination and collaboration are vital to contain the drug peddling and break the supply chain, besides taking stringent action against the culprits involved in the hazardous trade of drugs.

DC urged all stakeholders to work religiously for eliminating the drug menace in the district.

After reviewing the functioning of Drug Addiction Centre and ATF Centre the DC asked the CMO to introduce OTP followup mechanism of patients.

He also instructed Agriculture Department for implementing alternative cropping strategy in areas affected by illicit cultivation of narcotic crops in the district.

Police authorities informed the chair that during the ongoing month, 16 FIRs have been lodged and 19 arrests of drug peddlers were made.

DC said that drug abuse is a serious problem and it is essential to tackle the issue from multiple perspectives, including deterrence, treatment and enforcement.

During the meeting it was informed that massive poppy destruction drives were carried and poppy on 738 Kanals was destroyed in current year season in district.

On the occasion, the DC stressed upon the Officers of all the line departments including Enforcement agencies to ensure better coordination in imposing greater deterrence to combat dangerous trade of drug-trafficking.

The meeting was attended by ADC, Viqar Ahmed Giri, ACR, Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz; SDM Noorabad Bashir Ul Hassan,ACD Mohammad Imran, SP GM Bhat, CEO,DIO and other officers from police and civil administration.
