DODA NOVEMBER 3: A workshop on the theme ‘Say no to corruption; Commit to the Nation’ was today organised by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory here in the conference hall to observe Vigilance Awareness Week.

This annual event, held from October 30 to November 5, 2023, is designed to raise awareness among government employees about the perils of corruption and the importance of integrity and ethics in public service.

Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh chaired the workshop organised by the Anti Corruption Bureau Jammu and Kashmir. The DC, while interacting with the officers, said that corruption is a serious menace spoiling the society.

The key speakers of anti corruption bureau Jammu and Kashmir were the DSP and Inspectors from the ACB, J&K, who delivered lectures on the menace of corruption.

The ACB officers told in the meeting that during the observance of vigilance awareness week from 30th of October to 5th of November, the debates, skits and different cultural items are being organised across the UT to promote and highlight the fall out of menace of corruption.

The ACB officers listed tested methods to control corruption, such as preventive vigilance, participative vigilance, and punitive vigilance. They also highlighted the role of anti-corruption agencies in keeping a check on misuse of power by government officials, as outlined in Section 2, of the Prevention of Corruption Act. The workshop discussed different forms of corruption, including embezzlement and fraud and identified factors such as greed, monopoly, and lack of transparency as root causes.

The workshop shed light on the consequences of corruption, which include arrest, loss of reputation, social sanctions, low self-esteem and depression for those involved.

The ACB officers stressed that ethical values play a crucial role in preventing corruption, alongside vigilance, adherence to rules, promotion of e-governance, and the imposition of appropriate punishments.

The workshop further emphasised the importance of strengthening departmental vigilance frameworks to combat corruption effectively. The event was attended by several district officers and representatives of concerned departments, all aiming to address and tackle corruption issues in the region. Discussions also centred on the functioning and execution guidelines of the Anti-Corruption Bureau in Jammu and Kashmir.

The SSP Abdul Qayoom also spoke on the menace of corruption and its remedy. He said that across the district in all offices of the police department has installed CCTV cameras The SSP Doda also informed that, he is going to install the CCTV cameras in district police Lines in coming days to keep strict vigilance on the menace of any type of corruption.

The ADC Doda Ravi Kumar Bharti appreciated the Anti corruption bureau Jammu and Kashmir for organising a vigilance awareness workshop in the district.
