CJ throws light on role of Legal Services Institutions

Leh, Sept 29: Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Judge Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman National Legal Services Authority today stressed that various agencies should strive to achieve the constitutional objective of access to justice to all particularly the marginalized and vulnerable sections of the society.

He was addressing Mega Legal Awareness Camp at Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Choglamsar near here organized by District Legal Services Authority Leh.

Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Patron-in-Chief Ladakh Legal Services Authority, Justice Atul Sreedharan, Judge High Court of J&K and Ladakh and Executive Chairman Ladakh Legal Services Authority and Dr Pawan Kotwal, Advisor to Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh were present on the occasion.

In his inaugural address, Justice Kaul said, “legal awareness means the ability to understand words used in a legal context to draw conclusions from them and then to use to those conclusions to take action”, adding “various organs/agencies should strive to achieve the constitutional objective of access to justice to all particularly the marginalized and vulnerable section of the society”.

Justice N Kotiswar Singh enlightened the gathering about the basis, structure and role of Legal Services Institutions. He also threw light on the history and coming into existence of different functionaries of Legal Service Institutions and how with the collaboration and participation of all the stakeholders the aims and cherished goals enshrined in the preamble of our constitution can be achieved.

Dr Pawan Kotwal briefed about the infrastructural developmental works of judicial and legal services institution in Ladakh and stated that UT Ladakh is committed to extend full possible support to improve the same.

Justice Atul Sreedharan presented vote of thanks while as Spalzes Angmo, Member Secretary Ladakh Legal Services Authority conducted the programme.

On the occasion, Yudvender Singh, Director NALSA, M K Sharma Principal Secretary to the Chief Justice of High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Anoop Sharma Registrar IT High Court, Yash Pal Sharma, Principal District & Sessions Judge & Leh, Executive Councilor LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel, Professor Rajesh Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner Santosh Sukhdeva, ASP Leh Shruti Arora Judicial Officers of Leh, Councilors of LADHC Leh, officers of various Departments of Leh, Mohd Shafi Lassu, President Bar Association Leh were also present.

All the departments and banks of Leh showcased the beneficial schemes as well as local grown products by installing stalls at the venue of the programme. During the programme, many beneficiaries were distributed with benefits like battery run cycle and wheel chair, sanction letters of subsidized loans.
