LMD conducts intensive drive against sale of smuggled/ illegal cigarettes in various markets across Srinagar

Various brands of illegal cigarettes seized, case also registered against erring

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 26: On the directions of Controller Legal Metrology Department (LMD) UT of J&K, the Enforcement squad of Legal Metrology Department conducted intensive drive against the sale of smuggled/Illegal cigarettes in various markets of District Srinagar.

During the inspection several locations were raided including Koker Bazar, Batamaloo, Bohri Kadal, Maharaja Gunj etc in which various brands of illegal cigarettes like Paris Special Filter cigarettes, Business Rovals, Gold Vimal, Win etc were seized. A case was registered against the delinquent dealers for selling the brands in contravention to the provisions of Legal Metrology Act, 2009 and the Rules made there under.

The Legal Metrology Department has registered a few cases against the delinquent dealers for selling illegal cigarette brands in the past months and imposed huge penalties.

Similar drives for other products shall be continued in future for compliance under Legal Metrology Laws and strict action shall be taken against the offenders.
