Karnah Kupwara: Continuing his outreach program, Colonel M S Kumar, the Commanding Officer of 3 J&K Battalion NCC Baramulla, exemplarily visited the border area of Karnah Valley in Kupwara District. During this visit, he interacted with over 150 cadets from this border district. This marked the first visit by a commanding officer to the remote border area of Karnah Valley in the Tangdhar Sector in more than five years. This area is considered one of the most backward and far-flung regions in North Kashmir.

The interactive session took place at the Government Degree College Tangdhar, where Colonel M S Kumar engaged with the assembled cadets and heads of educational institutions, including Government Degree College Tangdhar, Government Higher Secondary Schools Kandi, Taad, and Teetwal, as well as Government High Schools Tangdhar and Nawa Gabra. The cadets warmly welcomed the officer, displaying great enthusiasm for the interaction.

During his address, Colonel M S Kumar, drawing from his illustrious career, motivated and inspired the students about the role of NCC in their lives. He highlighted the various opportunities NCC offers for their overall personality development, including incentives for pursuing higher education and careers in the Indian Armed Forces.

Colonel M S Kumar’s visit provided a valuable opportunity for the cadets in the area to learn from the wisdom and insights of a seasoned leader who consistently encourages them to give their best. As part of his visit, Colonel Kumar emphasized that joining NCC instills leadership qualities, discipline, a sense of patriotism, and enhances personality and physical fitness. Through NCC, cadets can participate in various adventure activities, community service, and forge lifelong friendships with cadets from across the country. Colonel Kumar stressed that the values and skills acquired in NCC would not only enhance their personalities but also contribute to the betterment of society and the country. He also took note of their grievances and assured timely redressal.

Professor Haroon Rashid, Principal of Government Degree College Tangdhar, and other heads of educational institutions expressed their gratitude to Colonel M S Kumar for his visit to the border area, setting an example for the NCC unit.

The program concluded with a cleanliness drive, Swachita Abhiyan, led by NCC cadets, under the aegis of Swachta Pakhwada, a campaign by the Government of India, which will culminate on 2nd October, marking Gandhi Jayanti.

Colonel Kumar personally visited all the educational institutions in the Tangdhar Sector that have NCC units, including Government Higher Secondary Schools Kandi, Taad, and Teetwal, as well as Government High Schools Nawa Gabra and Tangdhar. He also interacted with the cadets and students of AGS Tangdhar.
