Security forces on Wednesday said that two militants were killed in a week-long encounter in the forest area of Kokernag hamlet in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, and the joint operation has concluded with the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other war-like stores.
Sharing details, an official told that a joint operation was conducted from September 13 to September 19 by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police in the Garol area of Anantnag based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of militants.
He added, the first contact was established on September 13, resulting in a firefight and a prolonged operation that continued until September 19. “Two militants have been killed, along with the recovery of 02x AK Rifles, 01x Pistol, and other war-like stores, and the joint operation has been concluded.”
Similarly, the Army’s on social media handle, X formerly (Twitter), wrote: “ChinarCorps salutes the supreme valour & sacrifice of Col Manpreet Singh, SM, DySP Humayun Bhat, Maj Aashish Dhonchak, SM & Sep Pardeep Singh who laid down their lives in service of the Nation, in the highest traditions of the Indian Army and JKP.” (Kashmir Bulletin–KB)
