PEERZADA SAYEED

ZARLA, KARNAH: A few days ago on 04 September it was reported that a bear had accidentally came in contact with power transmission line at Zarla near Sadna top Karnah and died due to electrocution. Pertinent to mention here that power transmission line at many locations has been tide with forest trees instead of electric poles which often poses threat to nomads and wild animals. The matter was brought into the notice of forest department officials who according to them had buried the dead animal away from residential area. However, the locals putting up in neaby dhoks including Zarla, Marh and Kuchiban have complained of extreme foul smell and held an agitation against forest department. They claim that the officials of forest department have not buried the animal properly rather had thrown it just away from eyesight.
It is being often reported particularly from peripheral residential areas of Karnah Valley that the population of wild animals including bears, leopards and wild pigs has alarmingly increased during past few years and are often seen roaming in these areas. People of different villages including Nehchiyan, Budwan, Shamaspora, Gomal, Hajinar, Kona Gabra, Chorkunjiyan, Tarboni, Chanipora and some others vilages have claimed of huge loss to maize crop caused by bears. Besides crop damage, these animal have become threat to the life of people residing in forest nearby areas. Herds of these wild animals have been seen damaging crops and roaming in residential areas and people have resorted to drum beating in order whisk away these animals. While talking to this reporter Jahangir Chechi from Nehchiyan, Mohammad Yousaf from Gabra, Siraj Din from Nehchiyan and others from different localities have demanded that Forest/Wildlife Department must take cognizance of these incidents and take necessary measures to safeguard life and property of common masses.
