DC bats for launching mass awareness against drug abuse

UDHAMPUR, SEPTEMBER 06: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, today chaired a district-level meeting of the Narco Coordination (NCORD) committee in the Mini Conference Hall, DC Office Complex.

The purpose of the gathering was to address issues related to the restructuring of the NCORD mechanism in the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joginder Singh Jasrotia; Additional SP, Anwar-Ul-Haq; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Rafiq Ahmed Jaral along with the SDMs, Tehsildars, Principals of Degree colleges, and remote participants via virtual mode.

The meeting featured extensive discussions on several critical facets concerning drug addiction, besides promoting Nasha Mukt Panchayats, identification of hotspots, frequent monitoring, the setup of drug de-addiction and rehabilitation centers, tracking mechanisms, and the cultivation of illicit poppy.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the urgent need for comprehensive awareness programs against drug abuse. She instructed the stakeholders to conduct awareness campaigns in schools, colleges, and beyond, adopting a holistic approach that targets the younger population while involving parents. She requested detailed reports from relevant departments regarding measures taken to combat the drug menace in the district. Tehsildars were specifically directed to make provisions for the identification tracking mechanism system. Furthermore, the ACD was tasked with conducting sensitization programs on drugs in different blocks. She stressed the necessity for sustained efforts from law enforcement agencies and urged all stakeholders to work together in a coordinated manner.
