During this insightful interaction, the scientific team exchanged valuable insights and knowledge with local saffron cultivators. The discussions centered around the application and utilization of a bio-fertilizer developed at the University of Jammu. The team, acknowledging the significance of saffron cultivation, initiated demonstration trials at the Saffron Development Farm in Berwar Kishtwar. These trials aim to study the potential impact of the bio-fertilizer on saffron growth before the transplanting phase.

As part of their comprehensive exploration, the team also ventured into the saffron growing belts to visit the fields of dedicated farmers. This immersive experience provided them with a practical understanding of the local saffron cultivation practices and challenges.

Throughout their visit, the Department of Agriculture extended wholehearted support and cooperation to the scientific team. Recognizing the vital role of saffron in the district’s agricultural landscape, officials encouraged the continuation of research efforts that could enhance the crop’s productivity. Additionally, the research insights have the potential to create new marketing opportunities for the saffron produce, benefiting both the local community and the broader economy.

The collaborative endeavor between the University of Jammu’s scientific team and the local agricultural authorities demonstrates a shared commitment to fostering innovation and sustainable practices in saffron cultivation. The visit not only underlines the importance of cross-border scientific collaboration but also highlights the potential for cutting-edge research to positively impact traditional agricultural sectors. Through such endeavors, Kishtwar District takes a significant step towards the advancement of its agricultural practices and the enhancement of its saffron produce.
