National Senior Citizens Day celebrated at Shopian

In order to promote the inclusiveness of the elderly people in society, the Department of Social Welfare Shopian today organised a one day programme marking the celebration of National Senior Citizens Day.

On this occasion, free health check-ups and medicines were made available to the elderly people at different locations.

The elderly people were made aware about the facilities available at Old Age Home, located at Alyalpora Shopian and about their rights and duties along with the various welfare schemes run by the department for their benefit.

A picnic was also organised by the department wherein the senior citizens engaged in various activities and interactions with each other.

A similar function was also held at Old Age Home, Shopian with a series of thoughtful and engaging activities aimed at celebrating and honoring the elderly residents.

The event encompassed medical check-ups, thought-provoking discussions and recognition of the valuable contributions made by senior citizens

Their resilience, wisdom, and lifetime of experiences were acknowledged as valuable assets that continue to enrich the community.
