The festival’s inaugural day commenced with the harmonious rendition of the National Anthem resonating at the base camp of Government HSS Pogal. The day unfolded with a 6 km Trekking-cum-Nature Walk, winding through the captivating Pogal area of Ukhral Tehsil.

The trekking expedition was ceremoniously flagged off jointly by SDM Ramsoo Ghanshyam Basorta, Sarpanch Pogal Mohd Iqbal Katoch from the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Pogal. Trekkers traced their steps from Rahoon Top to the picturesque Sargali, culminating their journey back at Pogal.

The trek saw the enthusiastic participation of about 100 individuals, including students from Government Higher Secondary Schools of Pogal and Maligam, as well as representatives from civil and police administration, Army personnel, educators, PRIs, and members of the Pogal Volunteer Association.

Amidst the camaraderie and adventurous zeal of participants, SDM Ramsoo seized the moment to applaud the dedicated efforts of the organizers, particularly the Tourism Department, in curating a joyous activity that seamlessly married entertainment with enlightenment.

When approached by the media persons and adding more depth to the festival’s significance, Director Tourism, Vivekanand said that the Pogal Festival embodies our commitment to unearth the hidden treasures of Jammu and present them to the world.

Through such initiatives, ‘we strive to forge unforgettable experiences for both locals and visitors, while also empowering the communities residing In these enchanting regions.’

District Administration Ramban hailed the Tourism Department’s pioneering initiative in crafting the monumental event in Pogal (Sargali) and emphasized the potential of rural tourism and livelihood avenues, advocating for the promotion of Homestays within Ramban District.

In a tete-a -tete with the media, the Joint Director Tourism Sunaina Sharma Mehta briefed that events like the Pogal Festival epitomize our dedication to nurturing and showcasing the rich cultural heritage and vibrant diversity of Jammu. By encouraging local artists and offering immersive experiences, we are fostering a deeper connection between people and the remarkable landscapes of our region.

She highlighted the role of the homestays initiative in providing an opportunity for tourists to stay with local families and experience the local way of life. She also emphasized the need to preserve the region’s natural and cultural heritage for future generations, ensuring that the beauty and richness of the area are enjoyed by visitors for many years to come.

Among the esteemed guests present were Tehsildar Pogal Paristan, Nasir Javed, BDO Block Ukhral Ram Paul, Principal HSS Pogal, Abdul Mujeed Bhat, ATO Zaheer Ahmed and the social activist Sheraz Katoch. The event was also graced by officials from the Tourism Department and District Administration Ramban.

Looking ahead to the second day, the festival promises a vibrant and culturally rich experience at the idyllic Sargali meadow (Pogal).

The stage is set for local artists to shine, showcasing their diverse talents against the backdrop of adventure and culture. The event’s itinerary features an array of captivating activities including night camping, enthralling horse racing, spirited kabbadi matches, intense tug of war battles, soul-stirring musical performances, and captivating displays of culturally significant artifacts.

With these perspectives, the Pogal Festival emerges not only as a celebration of culture and adventure but also as a testament to the transformative power of tourism in creating opportunities and fostering community pride in J&K’s lesser-explored locales.
