Independence Day was commemorated in our college today with pride & gaiety. The faculty, staff & students assembled in the college premises by 7:10 a.m. The worthy principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Shabeena Iqbal Shawl, unfurled the Tricolor at 7:30 a.m. It was accompanied by the singing of the National Anthem in unison by all present. While the anthem was being sung, the worthy principal showed her respect to the Tricolor by saluting it. The singing of the National Anthem was led by Ishtiyaq Ahmad Raina, lecturer in the department of Music. The personnel from the police department also attended the unfurling ceremony.
This was followed by the cultural program in which the students created an aura of patriotism in the air with their songs & dances which included the traditional Kashmiri Rauff.
In her address, the worthy principal said that this was the day of celebration, joy, fervour & enthusiasm. She underlined the fact that the summum bonum of the freedom struggle was peace & unity.
Speaking on the occasion, the staff secretary of the college, Dr. Mehraj Hajini, recollected the sacrifices of the freedom fighters which, he said, were of the highest order & sans which it would have been impossible to dislodge the mighty British Empire.
Mir Abid (KPS), SDPO Sumbal, who also attended the cultural program, was appreciative of the new vibrant atmosphere at GDC Sumbal, throbbing with co-curricular & extra-curricular activities without loss of focus on academics. He said this was being recognized at all levels.
This was followed by the felicitation of winners in the events organized in the run up to Independence Day.
A light refreshment was also served to all the Participants.
