77th Independence Day was celebrated at GDC Tangdhar with great and enthusiasm and fervour. National Flag was hoisted at 9:10 am by Chief Guest, Principal of the College Prof. Haroon Rashid in presence of college number of students, teaching and non-teaching staff, and invited guests. NCC Cadets presented March Pass and Guard of Honour to chief guest. After Flag Hoisting and salutation, gallantry award winner Veers/ex-servicemen/family members of ex-servicemen, were honoured by presenting them mementos, as a token of respect and love. Prominent among them were Captain (Rtd.) Mohammad Ilyass Khawaja – two time Sena Medal winner, Parveena Akhtar Wd/o Late Hav. Abdul Rehman Sena Medal, Hav. Mohammad Din Sena, Medal, Hav. Rafiq Hussain Shah-Sena Medal, NK Fayaz Ahmad Shaikh-Sena Medal and L/Hav. Jahangeer Konshi, ex-serviceman and presently working as MTS of the College. Under the banner of “Meri Maati Mera Desh” and “Veeron Ka Vandan” a colourful patriotic cultural programme was presented by College Students including NSS volunteers and NCC cadets. Besides singing of National Anthem, patriotic songs, dance acts and a patriotic skit- displaying the valour shown by Indian Army during Operation Balakote were presented by students. Prominent performers among the students were awarded with mementos while as all the performers were given participation medals.
Sweets and light refreshment was given to all the participants including invited guests and audience. Whole activities of Independence Day celebrations were carried out under the guidance of worthy Principal Prof. Haroon Rashid and coordinated by senior faculty member Prof. Tariq Ahmad Shah with active cooperation of Programme Office NSS and Physical Director of the college. Dr. Jan Mohammad Bhat acted as stage secretary while as Dr. Sharafat Ali Khan presented Vote of Thanks at the conclusion of Independence Day celebrations.
