AKAM: Swachta Abhiyan kick-started for cleanliness of Pulwama Town

As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom today kick-started two week long Swachta Abhiyan for cleanliness of Dhobi Khul, lanes, by-lanes and streets of Pulwama town.

In this regard, a walkathon under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan lead by DC was started from DC Office and culminated at Shaheed Farooq Chowk Pulwama in which officers/Officials from Civil departments, PRI members from Pulwama, traders, members from Pulwama Chamber of Commerce, Volunteers, Civil Society members, Students, Municipal Council members of Pulwama, besides local youth participated.

Students on the occasion were seen holding placards/banners and raising slogans to create awareness among the people regarding Clean Pulwama Swachh Pulwama and cleanliness as collective responsibility. .

All the participants resolved to keep the town clean and waste free. Special focus is being laid on cleanliness of Dhobi khul that passes through the heart of town.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that all identified locations where garbage is found are to be cleaned during the drive. Besides, the aim of launching this mega sanitation drive is to spread the message of public involvement in sanitation and sensitize them about the importance of cleanliness.

A sense of responsibility has been evoked among the people through the Clean India Movement and citizens are now becoming active participants in cleanliness activities across the nation, DC said.

Dr Basharat reiterated that the drive is not just about cleaning surroundings but also seeking the participation of people in planting trees, creating trash-free environment, providing sanitation facilities and paving a way for Swachh Bharat eventually.

He also urged the locals, Govt. employees, Panchayat members and students to carry cleanliness drives in their areas to ensure all-round cleanliness of the district.
