Takes onsite review of works of Noor Jehan Bridge over River Jhelum at Qamarwari

The Deputy Commissioner (DC), Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Asad Wednesday undertook a visit of different City areas to oversee the progress of works being carried out on several major developmental projects including ongoing construction works on Lasjan Grade Separator on NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar highway), Flyovers at Nowgam Junction, Sannat Nagar Chowk and Bemina Crossing to improve flow of traffic on heavy loaded traffic intersections of the District.

The DC also took onsite appraisal of ongoing construction works on Noor Jehan Bridge being constructed over River Jhelum at Qamarwari at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.

At Lasjan, the Deputy Commissioner inspected the progress of works on the 560-meter span Flyover/Grade Separator being executed by NHAI at an estimated cost of Rs 1.03 crore.

On the occasion, the Project Manager NHAI apprised the DC of the present status of ongoing work and informed that over 90 percent of the work on the project has been completed and Bitumen/finishing works are going on in full swing.

The DC directed the concerned executing agency to speed up the work by deploying additional men and machinery and complete the project as per revised deadline so that movement of traffic is improved on the corridor of National Highway.

While reviewing the ongoing work on Flyover at Nowgam crossing, the DC took stock of the work on 0.85 km span flyover being carried out at a cost of Rs 36.93 crore.

The DC was apprised that over 55 percent of work has been completed including piling work and work of pile cape and pier caps. He was also informed that girder works are under progress, besides work on the approach road is also going on.

The DC on the occasion, stressed on accelerating the pace of construction work on the Flyover and set a November, 2023 deadline for its completion.

Similarly, the DC also visited Sanat Nagar Chowk, and inspected the construction work on Rs 37 crore project of 0.85 km span Sanat Nagar Flyover.

On the occasion, the concerned Engineers brought issues related to removal of bottlenecks to divert traffic on alternate route and erecting of barricades around the construction site of the project into the notice of the Deputy Commissioner.

The Deputy Commissioner gave spot directions to the concerned officers to address the issues immediately so that works on the project are carried smoothly.

At Bemina crossing, the DC also inspected the pace and progress of ongoing work on construction of flyover at busy junction of Bemina bypass being executed at a cost of Rs 31.49 crore by PWD.

On the occasion, the DC directed the concerned executing agency to accelerate the pace of work by employing additional manpower and machinery to complete the prestigious project by the end of September this year.

The DC was apprised that over 55 percent of works on flyover at Bemina junction stands completed so far and the project will be completed in full within set timelines.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC hoped that as soon as these prestigious projects on NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar highway) are completed shall improve transport facilities in Srinagar and also will prove helpful to overcome traffic congestion along the highway and on other important road corridors.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner also took onsite appraisal of works on Noor Jehan Bridge being constructed by R&B over River Jhelum at Qamarwari at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore.

At the site, the DC took a round of the bridge on which over 85 percent work has been completed. The DC asked concerned Officers to expedite the works and finish balance works within the shortest possible time.

The DC stressed the concerned executing agency to redouble the men and machinery to speed up the progress of work to ensure its time bound completion. The DC also asked the concerned Engineering wing to monitor the progress on a daily basis.

The DC said by completion of Noor Jehan Bridge, the decade old demand of the local population will be fulfilled and shall also bring significant change in the movement of traffic flow.

During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Chief Planning Officer Srinagar, Executive Engineers of R&B CD-Ist & PCD-Ist, Project Manager, NHAI, Tehsildars of Pantha Chowk, Chanapora and Eidgah, besides other officers of concerned Departments.
