SWD Jammu organises Drug Demand Reduction campaign at Qasim Nagar

Department of Social Welfare Jammu today organised a one day awareness cum interactive programme on “Drug Demand Reduction” here at Qasim Nagar, New Bahu Fort.

The programme was oriented to impart awareness to the general masses about illicit trafficking of drugs, their harmful impacts and control.

Director General, Directorate of Social Welfare, Vivek Sharma, was the Guest of Honor.

The programme was attended by Assistant Director (Adm) SWD, Shivani Gotra; Assistant Director (Schemes) SWD, Pallvi Sharma; Director JKSPYM, Pallavi Singh, and the whole team of NGO JKSPYM.

The event witnessed participation of Mohalla President, D.D. Mehra and youth and locals of the community.

During the interaction, Director General, SWD said that addiction is an advanced stage of substance abuse where the user develops a compulsion to take the drug, persists in usage despite its harmful consequences and exhibits a determination to obtain the drug by almost any means and it’s high time to aware every individual of the society about the menace, it’s impacts. She also suggested various ways to curb the menace of drug usage.

The Director JKSPYM also gave details about the rehabilitation centre run by the NGO- JKSPYM and methods to curb drug abuse and control drug demanding desires.

Local PRI members also shared their views pertaining to agenda and shared means which are being adopted by the community people to avoid the harmful consequences.

Further, local kids also participated in the programme with their performances and also enthusiastically performed the signature campaign “I SAY NO TO DRUGS”.
