DC Bandipora conducts on-site assessment of flood prevention measures along Jehlum embankments in Sumbal

The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Dr. Owais Ahmad today visited several areas of the Sub Division Sumbal of the district to take firsthand appraisal of the situation arisen due to rains in the flood prone areas.

The DC inspected the flood prone areas and the vulnerable banks of river Jhelum and reviewed the arrangements put in place to tackle any untoward situation

It was informed that all the men and machinery has been mobilised to tackle any situation arisen due to heavy rains.

The Official from Irrigation and Flood Control Department informed that the department has already deposited sand filled cement bags at vulnerable spots, and several banks were strengthened by putting these bags to avoid any breach in the flow of the river.

Dr. Owais appreciated the ground staff for working round the clock to keep vigil on vulnerable banks of the river. He directed for further strengthening embankments and asked the officers to closely monitor the water level and follow the protocols already set to deal with any flood like situation.

The DC also interacted with locals and took feedback from them with regard to the government measures being taken and suggestions to tackle floods, etc.

During the visit, the DC toured shadipora and adjoining areas of sumbal and took a detailed stock of current status of water level of rivers, availability of sand bags, machinery and other arrangements available in the district.

The DC also instructed the officers to stay at their respective headquarters and not to leave the station until further orders and asked them to keep the control room operational round the clock.

The DC was accompanied by SDM Sumbal, Tehsildar Sumbal, officers of Flood Control Department, and other senior officers of the district
