Department of Youth Services & Sports Kupwara today organized Inter Zonal District Level Road Race here. The race was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Ghulam Nabi Bhat in presence of District Youth Services & Sports Officer, Zahoor Ahmad Wani.
The race commenced from Bumhama fruit Mandi at 7:30 AM and ended at TRC Kupwara.
On the occasion, 150 students from different age groups including under -14, under -17 and under- 19 participated in the race. These students belonged to 13 zones of the District including farflung Zone Tangdar and Zone Chamkoot. The participating students showed great enthusiasm and exhibited discipline in all facets.
After completion of the race, 3 winners from each of the 3 groups were awarded.
Speaking at the occasion, the ADC said that the sports keeps a person mentally and physically fit and impressed upon the students to take active part in co-curricular activities to ensure their overall personality development. He said menaces like drug addiction and smoking could also be curbed by active participation in sports activities.
It is pertinent to mention here that these activities are being carried out as a preparatory measure for participation in the subsequent events at Inter District level competition.
