ANANTNAG, MAY 19: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Syed Fakhrudin Hamid Friday kick-started the “Mai Bhi Kisan” campaign from Krad village of Anantnag.  The brief objective of this campaign is to sensitize the school children about the role of Agriculture in tandem with the environment for securing food security, sustenance of natural resources and preserving the environment for future generations.  The aim is to practically expose the students to different aspects of agriculture which they are not otherwise aware of.  During the campaign, the students shall visit various agricultural fields to get exposed to the traditional as well as new farm technologies. The experts from agriculture & school education departments would provide practical training regarding various forms and aspects of agriculture including horticulture, pisciculture, silviculture, apiculture and agro based industries.  This campaign would also provide an opportunity to the students to interact with progressive farmers of the district.  Addressing the media and the students, the DC talked about the importance of such campaigns for the benefit of the students and explained about the negative impacts of plastic use and how these natural fibers can replace plastics for a clean and green environment.  He emphasized that the students can play a vital role in spreading the message of conservation of natural resources like water, soil which is very important for sustainable food production in future.  The DC advised the students that they may choose agricultural science in their career and serve the farming community of the country.  He also said that this programme would be organized twice in every month, where students from different schools, colleges, besides youth clubs, would be engaged in the programme, adding that the progress and feedback of the programme would be discussed in schools during morning assemblies so that the entire student community remains motivated towards farming besides their studies.  The rally was organized by the Department of Agriculture in collaboration with the School Education department.
