DDC Shopian reviews action plan for harvesting rain water

SHOPIAN, APRIL 27: The District Development Commissioner (DDC), Shopian, Sachin Kumar Vaishay today chaired a meeting of officers  to review & discuss the action plan for promotion of the  “Catch the Rain, Save the Water” initiative  for its conservation.  DDC held discussions regarding the implementation of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan and  reviewed progress and achievements of targets made by the line departments under Jal Shakti Abhiyan.   Concerned were  directed to  rejuvenate all water bodies in the district under the ongoing Amrit Sarovar project and to make dedicated efforts to conserve and preserve water for the present and future generations.  The DDC instructed concerned officers to visit water sources including springs and tube wells which are source to various drinking water schemes and to find out the requisite interventions to be done  for sustainability of these water resources and to formulate a  comprehensive Plan for their preservation.  He stressed on the need for making extra efforts for water conservation and rain water harvesting and efficient water management across the district.  The officials were also instructed to formulate a holistic plan covering both rural and urban areas with the focus on the central theme of source sustainability.  Taking a lead in water harvesting, Municipal Council, Shopian asked town residents and commercial establishments to install  rooftop rain water harvesting systems in furtherance of the water cause.  The DDC also directed the stakeholders to expedite the implementation of the Jal Jevan Mission to provide safe and adequate drinking water supply to all households of the district in all seasons. Stress was laid on timely  execution of the schemes  to ensure the success of the Mission.  The meeting was attended by JDP, ACR, ACD, CEO, CAO, Xen Irrigation, DFO, EO, BDOs and other concerned.
