Director Fisheries flags off Inter-state Exposure visit of fish Farmers

JAMMU, MARCH 08: The Director Fisheries, Mohammad Farooq Dar today flagged off a group of 15 farmers from the Directorate of Fisheries, Nowabad, Jammu for an exposure visit to leading inland Aquaculture States.

During the visit outside the UT of J&K, the farmers would visit to RAS and Biofloc Fish culture unit established at GADVASU, Ludhiana, Punjab and Krishi Vigyan Kendra NDRI, Karnal and also to the Fish Culture units of the progressive fish farmers of these states to aware them about the modern technologies being adopted by the neighboring states for increasing the fish production and productivity.

The visit of the Farmers has been organized under the Sub Mission on Agriculture Extension (SMAE) of Centrally Sponsored schemes, National Mission for Agriculture Extension Technology (ATMA) and under Human Resource Component of National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad.

Addressing the Farmers, the Director Fisheries expressed that such exposure visits are organized to acquaint farmers with new technologies in the Fisheries sector. He appealed to farmers to learn the latest know-how of good Aquaculture practices during their visit to leading inland Aquaculture states.

He called for replicating the success stories of the farms visited during the tour in their farming practices by implementing the acquired knowledge in their respective farms and also share their knowledge to the fellow farmers for enhancing their income and upliftment of their socio economic condition.

It was given out that special attention has been given to the capacity building of the farmers under different HRD schemes wherein the farmers acquire technical skills in the field of fish farming and develop entrepreneurship in aquaculture.

Mohammad Ashraf Derzi, Joint Director Fisheries, Chenab Valley, Jammu while interacting with the farmers on the occasion, said that the visit has been organized for making the farmers aware of the latest techniques for commercial Aquaculture and entrepreneurship development, recent advances in fish farming and cultivation of different fish species on scientific line.

He impressed upon them to interact with the farm scientists, experts, and extension functionaries of other states to get acquainted with up to date methodologies in fish farming for increasing their production.
