district  KULGAM, FEBRUARY 04: The District Administration Kulgam is all set to conduct systematic set of activities under Project REHNUMA to reach out the people to make them aware about drug menace.  This was revealed during a monthly meeting of the District Level Committee under the Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Dr.Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat at mini-secretariat, here.  The meeting was convened to discuss various measures to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district and review the implementation of decisions and directions passed in previous meetings.  During the meeting, threadbare discussion was held on various issues related to incidence of drug addiction, areas of concern and hotspots of drug use and action taken by the concerned departments with regard to curbing the menace of drugs.  The DC sought details from the concerned departments about the measures taken to control the drug menace.  Principals from Degree Colleges informed the chair that a series of awareness programmes are being conducted in colleges with a thrust to reach out to the students to sensitize them about consequences of drug abuse.  The chair was also informed that health and wellness clubs have been set up in schools.  The College authorities were instructed to adopt the identified hot spot villages and conduct a series of awareness in these areas including talk shows by involving volunteers from Colleges from these areas as ambassadors.  Besides, they were assigned to conduct proper surveys in these areas to ascertain the gravity of the problem to guide target groups.  During the meeting, the DC also reviewed functioning of the Drug De Addiction centre and Addiction Treatment Facility and instructed the concerned to improve the functioning of centres with focus on intensified target orientation.  It was also informed that during the current year, 09 cases were registered under NDPS while as in year 2022, a total of 92 cases were registered.  Further it was given out that intense poppy straw destruction was carried out by Joint teams of revenue, excise and police in the district throughout the season last year.   Chief Agriculture Officer was instructed to reach out to agrarians to provide them alternative crops for farming to earn their livelihood.  The meeting was attended by ADC Viqar Ahmed Giri, SDM Noorabad Bashir Ul Hassan, ACR Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, Principals of Degree Colleges, CAO, CMO, Dy.SP HQ, DIO, Tehsildar, HQ, Dy.CEO and other officers from Excise, Drug Control, Education and Revenue departments.
