KUPWARA, JANUARY 26: The 74th Republic Day was celebrated across Kupwara district with great enthusiasm and fervour. The main function was held at District Police Lines Kupwara where Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Kupwara, Irfan Sultan Panditpori unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade and took salute at march-past presented by contingents of JKP, JKAP, CRPF, IRP, Home Guards, FPF, Special Commandos, Police Band, NCC Cadets and school children. Besides, in its first experience, Tableaus (Jankis) were also presented during the parade which showcased achievements of different line departments.  Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray; Vice Chairman DDC, Haji Farooq Ahmad Mir; SSP Kupwara, Yougal Manhas; ADC Kupwara, Ghulam Nabi Bhat; DDC Members, BDC Chairpersons, Sarpanchs, besides, Police, Army and District officers and officials of all departments were present on the occasion.           Addressing the function, the Chairman DDC highlighted the historical background of the Republic Day with special reference to Constitution of India. He also remembered the martyrs of the Independence of India.  The Chairman enlisted the developmental achievements of the district and said that the district is marching ahead socio-economically in the UT of J&K. He said various flagship programmes are being implemented in the district which includes construction of Baramulla-Kupwara-Chowibal-Chamkote national highway at a cost of Rs.2347.46 crore which will further boost the development in the district. Construction of Industrial Biotechnological Park at Handwara costing Rs.43.63 crore is under execution. Construction of 12 MW Karnah Hydroelectric Project at Teetwal is under execution at a cost of Rs.123.42 crore. Likewise, he said, construction of Government Medical College Handwara has been approved at a cost of Rs.255 crore; 315 MVA Grid Station at Wahipora Langate has been approved at a cost of Rs.101 crore which will provide reliable power facility to the district. Construction of District Hospital Handwara is under execution at a cost of Rs.46.45 crore. Two Degree Colleges at Vilgam and Kralpora are coming up at a cost of Rs.10.15 crore and Rs.13.86 crore respectively.  Under Languishing Programme 156 projects stands approved by the Government costing Rs.351.26 crore; of which 73 projects stands completed while as, 75 projects are being completed by March end this year.  Under District CAPEX 2022-23, 378 works costing Rs.17.09 crore have been approved out of which 289 works have been completed.  The Chairman congratulated Deputy Commissioner Kupwara and his team of officers for putting best efforts in rejuvenating the education system in the district by introducing innovative and novel concept of Zimadari Project.  The Chairman also appreciated other departments for doing better work in the district which include RDD, Education, Animal Husbandry, Agriculture and allied departments.  The Chairman said that under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner, the ranking of Kupwara district has been improved under Aspirational District Programme. He said Kupwara district has vast potential of tourism and administration is on toe to exploit and explore the tourist destinations of the district.  Referring to the drug menace, the Chairman assured Deputy Commissioner Kupwara that people of the district are with the administration to curb the drug menace in the district. The measures which have been initiated by the administration are appreciable and appealed the people to support the Government in eradication of drug menace from the district.  Earlier, the Chairman DDC, DC Kupwara, VC DDC and SSP Kupwara laid flowers on the Martyrs Memorial.  The most attraction of this year’s Republic Day event was the display of Tableaus (Jankis) which were introduced by the Deputy Commissioner Kupwara for the first time in the history of Kupwara district. These Jankis showcased the achievements and nature of work of respective departments. The department which displayed the Jankis include Health, Fire Service, Horticulture, Municipal Council, Agriculture, YS&S, ICDS, RDD, Sanitation, Social Forestry, RDD, Social Welfare, Education, Handicraft/Handloom, Sheep Husbandry, JK Bank, Tourism, Industries and Winter Carnival.         A variety of cultural programmes were presented by the school children and artists during the function.       Later, award ceremony was held during which awards were given to the best performers in the March Past, Tableaus and cultural programmes. Awards were also given to various Officers and officials of the administration for their good work.        IN HANDWARA SUB DIVISION, Republic Day celebration was held at District Police Lines Handwara where President Municipal Committee Handwara, Masroor Ahmad Banday unfurled the National Flag, inspected the parade & took salute at march past presented by contingents from JKP, JKAP ,BSF, CRPF, IRP and Police band.  Cultural programmes were also presented by the school children and awards were given to the achievers.         SP Handwara, Sheema Nabi; ADC Handwara, Nazir Ahmad Mir, DDC Members of Rajwar and Mawar; Officers from civil administration, police department and other concerned were present on the occasion.  IN LOLAB SUB DIVISION, Republic Day celebration was held at GDC Sogam where SDM Lolab, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat unfurled the National Flag and took salute on the March Past. Meanwhile, school children presented different cultural programmes. IN KARNAH SUB DIVISION, Republic Day celebration was held at Mini Secretariat Tangdar where SDM Karnah, Dr. Gulzar Ahmad Rather unfurled the National Flag and took salute on March past. Meanwhile, school children also presented colourful cultural programmes. The Republic celebration was also held in all Education institutions of the district where National Flag was unfurled by the Heads of the institutions. Besides, National Flag was also hoisted in all Government Offices, Panchayats in the district.
