 Pitches for devising multi-pronged strategy to counter Drug menace

SAMBA, AUGUST 31: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Samba, Anuradha Gupta, Wednesday chaired the District level Narco Coordination (NCORD) Centre meeting, here at Conference Hall.

Discussing the measures to eradicate drug abuse, the DC called upon the stakeholder departments to devise a multi-pronged strategy to counter the menace.

“There is a need to devise a multi-pronged strategy covering identification of addicts, their rehabilitation and counseling, awareness campaigning, intensification of patrolling in border areas and conviction of perpetrators.

She further stressed on roping in PRIs, NGOs, civil society  to spread awareness and counsel the youth in this regard.

Deputy Commissioner directed departments  to their respective action plan on conducting nukad nataks, awareness camps, holding of pledge ceremonies, capacity building programmes, and other activities to be undertaken under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district.

Referring to the directions of the Chief Secretary during the meeting of the State level NCORD committee, she said the major task of District Level Committees for Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan is to carry out monthly activities on substance abuse. “Special focus should be on awareness generation in Higher educational institutions and schools besides reaching out to the community and identifying dependent populations during the monthly activities” informed the DC samba.

The meeting was attended by SSP Abhishek Mahajan, ADC Suram Chand Sharma, PO ICDS, ACR Manu Hansa, ACD, SDMs, DIO, BSF officer besides other concerned officers and officials.
