Police arrests 03 drug peddlers in Anantnag; contraband substances recovered

June 20: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, Police have arrested three drug peddlers in Anantnag and recovered contraband substances from their possession.

A police party headed by SHO PS Utrasoo at a checkpoint established at Cheerpora Utrasoo intercepted a Load Carrier bearing registration number JK02CH-2707 with two persons on board. During search, 40Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from the said vehicle. They have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Bhat son of Hameedulla Bhat resident of Magam Kokernag and Shabir Ahmad Khan son of Dula Khan resident of Wanigham Kokernag. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody and vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Moreover, Police party from Police Station Achabal arrested one drug peddler identified as Nissar Ahmad Bhat son of Mohd Ahsan Bhat resident of Khoshi Pora Achabal along with about 12.3Kgs of Poppy Straw. He has been shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law has been registered in respective police stations and investigation set into motion.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
