‘Environmental Week’ celebrated at Anantnag

ANANTNAG, JUNE 19: The Department of Water Management & Environmental Sciences in collaboration with Eco Club, NSS, NCC, Landscape Committee and Debate and Seminar Committee organised a week-long ‘Environmental Awareness Programme’ to mark the 50th year of establishment of Environmental Day in 1972.

Various activities including awareness and cleanliness drives, debate, quiz, essay competition and guest lecture were part of the week-long programme.

The over arching aim was to provide a general awareness platform for faculty and students and to sensitise all stakeholders of college about the present environmental scenario.

The awareness campaign kick-started with the inter-college essay competition on 13th June, 2022, which was followed by the ‘General Cleanliness and Conifer Plantation’ drive on 14th June, 2022. Inter-college quiz competition was organised on 16th June, 2022 in which students from different colleges from South Kashmir participated.

In order to encourage awareness of the environment through art, a painting competition was held on 17th June, 2022. To foster the competitive spirit among the budding youth, inter-college debate competition was held on the 18th June, 2022.

The highlight of the programme was a guest lecture by an expert on Environment and Water Management, Dr. Syed Javiad Ahmad Indrabi, Assistant Professor, Department of Water Management, SP College  on the last day of the programme.

To praise their efforts and talent, the students were given prizes, certificates and mementos by the worthy Principal, Professor Muzaffar Ahmad Bhat.

The Principal commended the commitment and the effort put in by various departments during the weeklong programme. The efforts and contribution by Dr. Sartaj Ahmad (Head Deptt. of Water Management), Dr. Rouf Ur Rafiq & Dr. Syed Zulfikar (Assistant Professors, Deptt. of Environmental Science) was appreciated by the Principal.

The program was concluded with the Environment Pledge followed by the vote of thanks by Dr. Feroz Ahmad Rafiqi, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry.
