Srinagar, Mar 10: In three different militancy-related incidents, three militants were killed in two encounters and a bank guard sustained injuries.
Two militants were killed in Naina Batapora village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
The gunfight ensued after joint forces including the soldiers from 55 Rashtriya Rifles and 182 Battalion CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir police cordoned off the village after receiving inputs about the movement of the militants.
During the search operation a contact with the militants was established. In the initial exchange of fire, a militant was killed while another militant was neutralized in the later part of the faceoff.
The identity of the militants are being ascertained, said a police official.
A non-local militant was killed in a brief shoot-out in Hazratbal area of Srinagar outskirts. Inspector-General of Police Vijay Kumar said that the militants were three in number. “Two managed to escape from the spot while the third one was killed,” he said adding that militants had emerged in the area to snatch the rifle of a policeman guarding the Hazratbal shrine.
While talking to reporters after the culmination of shoot-out, IGP said that militants are using religious places to take refuge. He said that two local militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba first entered a mosque in Naina, Pulwama but security forces took precautionary measures and neutralized both in a swift action.
