Of the total enhancement, GMC Jammu has added 12 seats, increasing its overall PG intake from 242 to 254, while GMC Srinagar has secured 18 additional seats, taking its intake from 277 to 295, as per news agency JKNS.

The expansion has also introduced new postgraduate specialisations, with Respiratory Medicine receiving PG seats at GMC Jammu and Forensic Medicine at GMC Srinagar for the first time.

At GMC Jammu, the enhancement covers four existing disciplines besides the introduction of Respiratory Medicine. MD Pathology seats have increased from 18 to 23, Paediatrics from 18 to 20, Pharmacology from 10 to 12 and Microbiology from seven to eight. Additionally, two PG seats in Respiratory Medicine have been introduced.

At GMC Srinagar, the additional seats have been distributed across seven disciplines. MD Anatomy seats have increased from 12 to 14, Pathology from eight to 10, Pharmacology from seven to nine and Physiology from eight to 10.

Forensic Medicine has received three PG seats for the first time, while MS Orthopaedics seats have increased from 16 to 20 and MS ENT from six to nine.

The latest expansion is expected to provide greater opportunities for medical graduates seeking postgraduate specialisation within Jammu and Kashmir while strengthening the academic and training capacity of the two premier government medical institutions.

The introduction of new postgraduate disciplines is also expected to widen the range of specialist medical training available within the Union Territory and contribute towards strengthening its healthcare workforce. (JKNS)
