Kashmir’s Beauty and Border Tourism: Unlocking Opportunities for Sustainable Growth

23/10/2026

Three years ago, when PARAS Health Srinagar embarked on its journey in Kashmir, we carried with us a vision that extended far beyond establishing a hospital. We wanted to create a healthcare institution that people could trust, a place where quality medical treatment would be accessible, where affordability would remain a priority, and where every patient would be treated with dignity, compassion and respect.

It was an ambitious undertaking, particularly in a region with its own unique healthcare challenges, expectations and sensitivities. We knew that establishing infrastructure, bringing advanced technology and assembling a team of skilled professionals would be important milestones. But we also understood that the real measure of our success would not be the size of our hospital or the range of services we offered. It would be the confidence people placed in us when they entrusted us with their health and, often, their lives.

Three years later, that belief continues to guide our journey. The road has not always been easy. There have been challenges, moments of uncertainty, difficult decisions and lessons that have shaped us as an institution. Yet, every challenge has strengthened our resolve to serve Kashmir better. Today, PARAS Health Srinagar is not merely a healthcare facility; it is steadily emerging as a recognition of hope for patients and families who seek dependable, quality healthcare closer to home.

Beyond Infrastructure: Building an Institution of Trust

Healthcare is fundamentally about people. It is about the patient waiting anxiously outside an operation theatre, the family hoping for encouraging news, the elderly person seeking relief from years of illness, and the young parents placing their newborn in the hands of medical professionals.

These moments define a hospital more meaningfully than its buildings, equipment or infrastructure.

At PARAS Health Srinagar, we have worked towards creating an environment where clinical expertise goes hand in hand with compassion. Our doctors, nurses, technicians, administrative teams and support staff have collectively contributed to building an institution that places patients at the centre of every decision.

Winning public trust has been one of the most important aspects of our three-year journey. Trust cannot be established through advertisements or declarations. It is earned through consistent performance, transparent communication, ethical medical practices and the ability to stand by patients during their most difficult moments.

We recognise that every patient who walks through our doors brings expectations, concerns and, above all, hope. Meeting those expectations remains our greatest responsibility.

Strengthening Kashmir’s Healthcare Ecosystem

Kashmir’s healthcare requirements are diverse and increasingly complex. With changing lifestyles, a growing burden of non-communicable diseases, rising demand for specialised treatment and the need for advanced medical interventions, strengthening the region’s healthcare infrastructure has become essential.

No single institution can address these requirements independently. A strong healthcare ecosystem requires meaningful collaboration between public and private healthcare providers, medical professionals, academic institutions and the community.

We see PARAS Health Srinagar as an important part of this larger ecosystem.

The public healthcare system remains the backbone of healthcare delivery in Jammu and Kashmir. Private healthcare institutions can complement these efforts by expanding access to specialised consultations, advanced diagnostics, elective procedures and complex medical interventions. By sharing the responsibility of patient care, both sectors can contribute towards reducing the pressure on existing facilities and improving the overall patient experience.

Our objective has never been to view healthcare as a competition between institutions. Rather, it is about creating an environment where patients benefit from greater choices, timely interventions and access to specialised expertise.

Bringing Advanced Healthcare Closer to Home

One of the defining challenges for patients in Kashmir has traditionally been the need to travel outside the region for certain specialised treatments. Apart from the financial burden, such journeys often involve emotional stress, logistical difficulties and precious time lost during critical medical situations.

We believe that people should not have to travel hundreds of kilometres for every advanced medical intervention.

Over the past three years, PARAS Health Srinagar has worked towards strengthening its clinical capabilities, expanding specialised services and investing in medical technology and skilled human resources. Our focus has been on developing capabilities across key disciplines, including cardiology, neurosciences, orthopaedics, oncology and other specialised areas of healthcare.

Technology, however, is only one part of the equation. Advanced equipment must be supported by experienced doctors, trained nursing professionals, efficient clinical systems and a culture that places patient safety above everything else.

Our approach has therefore been to combine medical expertise with technology, operational efficiency and personalised care. We want patients to experience not just advanced treatment but also a healthcare journey that is reassuring, transparent and responsive to their needs.

Making Quality Healthcare More Accessible

We firmly believe that quality healthcare should not become a privilege available only to those who can afford it. Accessibility and affordability must remain central to the way healthcare institutions function.

This is particularly relevant in Kashmir, where many families face financial and geographical challenges while seeking specialised treatment.

Our association with government healthcare initiatives, including Ayushman Bharat and other eligible healthcare programmes, reflects our commitment to widening access to medical services. Such initiatives can play an important role in ensuring that financial constraints do not become an insurmountable barrier to treatment.

At PARAS Health Srinagar, we continue to explore ways to make healthcare more accessible through community outreach, awareness programmes, preventive health initiatives and engagement with different sections of society.

We also recognise that healthcare does not begin when a patient enters a hospital. It begins with awareness, prevention, early diagnosis and timely medical advice. Through health camps, awareness campaigns and community initiatives, we are attempting to take healthcare conversations beyond hospital walls.

People: The Real Strength Behind Our Journey

If there is one lesson that our three-year journey has reinforced, it is that a hospital is only as strong as its people.

Behind every successful medical intervention is a coordinated effort involving doctors, nurses, technicians, emergency response teams and countless other professionals whose contributions often remain unseen.

Building a dependable team, nurturing talent and creating a culture of accountability have therefore remained essential priorities for us.

We are equally conscious of our responsibility towards the young generation of healthcare professionals in Kashmir. The region has enormous human potential, with talented doctors, nurses and allied healthcare professionals who deserve opportunities to learn, grow and excel.

By investing in people, encouraging professional development and creating an environment where talent can flourish, we hope to contribute to the future of healthcare in the region.

Ultimately, the institution we aspire to build is not one that simply delivers medical services, but one that develops professionals, strengthens medical capabilities and contributes to the larger healthcare landscape of Kashmir.

A Future Built on Hope and Responsibility

As we look ahead, we do so with humility and a renewed sense of responsibility. Three years may be a relatively short period in the life of a healthcare institution, but they have given us invaluable lessons about the people we serve, the challenges we must overcome and the standards we must continue to uphold.

We know that winning trust is an ongoing process. It demands consistency, investment, accountability and the willingness to evolve. We cannot afford to become complacent because healthcare expectations are constantly changing, and patients rightly expect better services, better outcomes and greater transparency.

Our ambition is to continue expanding clinical capabilities, strengthening specialised care, embracing innovation and making quality treatment increasingly accessible to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

But beyond these institutional goals, there is something far more meaningful that we wish to preserve: the hope that a patient and family carry when they enter our hospital.

For us, the journey of PARAS Health Srinagar is ultimately about those moments — a patient recovering after a difficult surgery, a family finding reassurance during a medical emergency, a newborn overcoming the odds, or someone receiving timely treatment without having to leave their homeland.

These are the moments that give meaning to our work.

Three years ago, we began with a promise. Today, that promise has evolved into a responsibility towards thousands of people who look to us for care, compassion and confidence.

We may have started as a healthcare institution, but our aspiration is much larger: to become a trusted partner in Kashmir’s healthcare journey, an institution that complements the region’s medical ecosystem and, above all, a beacon of hope for every life we touch.

Because healthcare is not just about treating illness. It is about restoring confidence, preserving dignity and giving people another reason to hope.
