Budgam, Oct 25 (JKNS): Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam, under Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), organised a comprehensive training-cum-input distribution programme on oats cultivation at its main campus in Harran, Budgam.

The programme aimed to equip local farmers with quality agricultural inputs and scientific knowledge to enhance fodder production, improve crop productivity and strengthen the economic condition of the farming community.

Director Extension, SKUAST-K, Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, attended the programme as the Chief Guest. In her address, she emphasised the importance of scientific interventions and timely distribution of agricultural inputs in improving productivity and enhancing the socio-economic status of farmers.

She also spoke in detail about oats seed production technologies, highlighting the importance of maintaining seed purity, adopting appropriate agronomic practices and ensuring proper post-harvest handling to produce high-quality seeds at the local level.

Head, KVK Budgam, Prof. Bilal Ahmad Lone, highlighted the economic and nutritional importance of oats. He encouraged farmers to adopt modern agricultural practices and maintain close coordination with KVK Budgam to improve farm productivity and maximise their income.

The technical sessions featured expert lectures and interactive discussions with participating farmers. Dr. Zahida, Chief Scientist (Agronomy) at the Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), Budgam, interacted with farmers, addressed their field-related queries and stressed the importance of selecting quality seeds for successful cultivation.

Dr. Shabeer Ahmad delivered a detailed lecture on the recommended package of practices for oats cultivation. He explained key aspects, including soil preparation, appropriate sowing time, nutrient management and weed control, to help farmers achieve better yields.

As part of the programme, high-quality oats seed was distributed among participating farmers to encourage the adoption of scientific cultivation practices during the upcoming agricultural season.

The programme concluded with an interactive feedback session, during which farmers appreciated SKUAST-K and KVK Budgam for their continued guidance and support in promoting scientific agriculture and improving farm productivity.
