Budgam, October 20: President of Anjuman-e-Sharie Shian, Hujjat-ul-Islam wal-Muslimeen Aga Syed Hassan Mosavi Al-Safavi, has expressed serious concern over reports that the historic Race Course Mosque in New Delhi has been served a six-day eviction notice.
According to the reports, the mosque has been a gazetted Waqf property since 1977 and is also a listed heritage site.
Aga Hassan said the reported development raises serious questions about the protection of Muslim religious endowments and the accountability of Waqf authorities. He emphasised that Waqf properties are sacred trusts and important religious and historical assets that must be safeguarded against arbitrary interference.
He called upon the concerned authorities to urgently review the matter, ensure adherence to due process and put effective safeguards in place to protect the mosque.
Aga Hassan also reiterated the importance of preserving the autonomy of Waqf institutions, stressing that religious properties must be protected through the principles of the rule of law, fairness and institutional accountability.
He underscored the need for a just and transparent approach to ensure the protection of religious endowments and the preservation of their historical and spiritual significance.
