Srinagar, Oct 17 (JKNS): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Dr G. V. Sandeep Chakravarty on Saturday stressed the need to engage young people in constructive activities, saying they should spend more time in libraries and playgrounds rather than fall prey to drugs and other harmful influences.
Emphasising the importance of positive engagement, as per news agency JKNS, Dr Chakravarty said Jammu and Kashmir Police would organise cricket tournaments across all districts during October as part of its civic action programme to encourage youth participation in sports and other meaningful activities.
“Youth should be busy in libraries and playgrounds rather than in negative energies,” SSP said, underlining the need to provide young people with opportunities that contribute to their personal development and keep them away from harmful influences.
He said the main objective of the initiative was to keep young people, who represent the future of the country and the strength of society, engaged in constructive pursuits and discourage them from falling into drug abuse and other negative influences, including excessive involvement in social media.
“The main aim of this project is to keep our youth, who are the future of our country and the strength of our society, busy in constructive activities and to keep them away from negative energies like social media and drugs,” he said.
SSP said the civic action programme would not be limited to cricket tournaments, adding that activities such as volleyball, indoor games and debates were also being organised to provide young people with diverse opportunities for participation.
He said such initiatives were aimed at encouraging discipline, teamwork, healthy competition and positive interaction among youth while strengthening their connection with the community.
Dr Chakravarty said Jammu and Kashmir Police was conducting civic action programmes across every district and would continue to introduce more activities to expand youth engagement and promote a healthy and constructive environment.
He also congratulated the young participants involved in the programmes and appreciated their participation in activities aimed at personal development and community welfare.
SSP reiterated that police would continue supporting initiatives focused on preventing drug abuse, encouraging sports and other constructive pursuits, and strengthening the social fabric.
The initiative comes amid efforts to encourage greater youth participation in sports and community activities, with the police seeking to provide alternatives that promote healthy lifestyles and discourage drug-related harm. (JKNS)
