Srinagar, Oct 12 (JKNS): Leader of Opposition Sunil Kumar Sharma on Monday invoked the 1987 Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections to target the Abdullah family, alleging that the biggest accusation of “vote theft” in the country was linked to the alleged rigging of that election.
Speaking to reporters, as per news agency JKNS, Sharma said the Abdullah family should answer questions surrounding the 1987 elections, alleging that Farooq Abdullah became Chief Minister following electoral manipulation.
“1987 is an example in the whole world. The biggest allegation of theft in the country is the theft of ’87. Abdullah family should first answer that,” he said.
Sharma also accused the Congress of having a history of electoral manipulation in Jammu and Kashmir, while claiming that fair elections in the region were held under former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Referring to the alleged influence of officials in the electoral process, Sharma claimed that a Deputy Commissioner named Khaliq used to appoint MLAs in Jammu and Kashmir, with such legislators being referred to as “Khaliq-made MLAs.”
His remarks came as he launched a fresh political attack on the Abdullah family and Congress over the conduct of elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The allegations reflect Sharma’s political position on the 1987 elections. (JKNS)
