Budgam, Oct 11 (JKNS): The 11th edition of the Beerwah Cup commenced at the DIET Beerwah ground on Sunday, with the first match of the tournament played today. More than 32 teams are participating in the cricket tournament, providing young players from different areas of Budgam district with an opportunity to showcase their talent and competitive skills.
The tournament is being organised by noted sports organiser Syed Waseem, with the objective of promoting grassroots cricket, providing young players with a competitive platform, and encouraging discipline, teamwork and healthy competition through sports.
The participation of over 32 teams reflects the growing popularity of cricket and the enthusiasm of young people for sporting activities across the region. The tournament offers local cricketers an opportunity to demonstrate their abilities, gain valuable experience and pursue further growth in the field of sports.
Syed Waseem has been actively involved in organising cricket tournaments across different areas of Budgam district for nearly a decade. His sustained efforts have played an important role in providing a platform for local players and strengthening sporting activities at the grassroots level.
Educationist Rouf Ahmad appreciated Syed Waseem’s contribution to the promotion of sports, stating that the organisation of such local tournaments provides young players with valuable opportunities to showcase their abilities. He emphasised that sports play a significant role in developing discipline, determination and a positive outlook among young people.
Gh Hassan Khan also lauded Syed Waseem’s efforts to promote cricket and bring young people together through sporting activities. He observed that local tournaments are an effective means of boosting the confidence of young cricketers and exposing them to healthy competition.
Educationist Manjeet Singh Gill, associated with PM SHRI Boys’ Higher Secondary School Humhama, Budgam, also appreciated Syed Waseem’s contribution to the sporting field. He stated that participation in sports alongside education helps develop young people’s personalities, leadership abilities and sense of responsibility.
