Sopore, Oct 4 (JKNS): A fire broke out at Government Boys Middle School and the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) in Dangiwacha area of Sopore on Sunday, prompting a joint firefighting operation by the Fire and Emergency Services, security forces, police and local residents.
According to officials as per news agency JKNS, the Fire and Emergency Services station Dangiwacha received the call at around 2:22 pm and immediately dispatched a fire tender at 2:23 pm. Fire and Emergency Services units from Rohama and Kralgund were also deputed for reinforcement.
The reinforcement teams reached the spot at around 2:30 pm, officials said.
As per an on-the-spot official assessment, three buildings of the Government Middle School were involved in the fire.
The blaze was brought under control, while cooling operations are currently underway to prevent any possibility of re-ignition, officials said.
Personnel from 32 Rashtriya Rifles, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Fire and Emergency Services, OCaps and local residents participated in the firefighting operation.
Officials said that when the fire tender exhausted its water supply, personnel of 32 Rashtriya Rifles replenished it using Army water bowsers, helping ensure uninterrupted firefighting operations.
Naib Tehsildar Dangiwacha and SHO Dangiwacha also reached the spot and took stock of the situation.
The cause of the fire and the extent of damage are yet to be ascertained. (JKNS)
