KARNAH//(JKNS) At least five people, including a nine-month-old toddler, were killed in a tragic road accident in the Semari area of Karnah in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
According to reports, a vehicle bearing registration number JK07-1299 met with an accident in the Semari area, resulting in the deaths of five persons. Local reports and initial media accounts confirm the death of 32-year-old Mohammad Idrees, son of Kaser Din, and his nine-month-old daughter, Hamza.
The other deceased have been identified as Sayeeda Begum, wife of Mohammad Idrees, aged 30; Shabir Ahmad, aged 70; and Raja Irshad, son of Majeed Khan, aged 27.
Several others sustained injuries in the accident. The injured have been identified as Sajid Ahmad of Semari, Naveed Ahmad son of Ghulam Hussain, Mushtaq Ahmad son of Ghulam Nabi of Semari, Farhan Khursheed son of Khursheed Ahmad of Teetwal, Javid Ahmad of Kadhama, Ashia Begum wife of Abdul Hameed of Semari, Ajaz Manzoor son of Manzoor Ahmad of Semari, and Shariq son of Mukhtar Ahmad of Teetwal.
The injured were shifted for medical treatment, with those requiring advanced care being referred to Srinagar.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident, while further details regarding the circumstances leading to the accident are awaited.(JKNS)
