Anantnag,September 2: The ASMITA Women’s Wushu League commenced today at St. Luke’s School, Anantnag, witnessing enthusiastic participation of more than 300 female athletes from various schools and sports clubs.
The two-day league, being held on September 2 and 3, 2026, is being organized by the District Anantnag Wushu Association with the objective of encouraging greater participation of women in sports and providing young Wushu athletes with a platform to compete, gain exposure and showcase their talent.
The opening ceremony was held in an enthusiastic atmosphere in the presence of Miss Nisha Khan, Principal, Female Block, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the league.
Addressing the participating athletes, Miss Nisha Khan appreciated the initiative and encouraged the young sportspersons to pursue sports with confidence, dedication and determination. She highlighted the role of sports in developing discipline, self-confidence, determination and sportsmanship among young people.
She also appreciated the efforts of the Wushu Association of Jammu and Kashmir in promoting the sport and creating opportunities for women athletes. She congratulated the participants for pursuing sports as a passion and career and urged them to continue working hard to achieve excellence at higher levels.
The league is being conducted under the guidance of Organizing Secretary Aaqib Majeed, presently serving as Joint Secretary, District Anantnag Wushu Association. His sustained efforts, along with the support of his team, have contributed significantly towards promoting Wushu in the district and providing young female athletes with opportunities to compete at the district level.
Ajaz Hassan, Secretary, District Anantnag Wushu Association, appreciated the efforts of Aaqib Majeed and his team and commended their contribution towards the promotion and development of Wushu in Anantnag.
Mr. Kuldeep Handoo, Dronacharya Awardee, congratulated all participating women athletes and extended his best wishes for the ongoing league and their upcoming competitions. He encouraged the athletes to remain focused and continue striving for excellence in their sporting careers.
The participation of over 300 female athletes reflects the growing interest among young women in Wushu and competitive sports. The league is expected to further strengthen opportunities for women athletes to gain competitive experience, build confidence and pursue excellence in the sporting arena.
The ASMITA Women’s Wushu League will conclude tomorrow with a medal distribution ceremony, where winners and podium finishers will be felicitated for their performances.
