Srinagar, Aug 25 (JKNS): The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch J&K has filed a chargesheet against a man accused of allegedly cheating the family of a cancer patient by taking lakhs of rupees on the promise of supplying medicines at cheaper rates.

Spokesperson in a statement issued here to news agency JKNS stated that EOW of the Crime Branch J&K has filed a Charge-sheet before the Hon’ble Court of Sub-Judge, Srinagar against Afaq Ahmad Thug S/o Ghulam Qadir R/o New Colony, Hazratbal Near Shiwala Mandir, Anantnag A/P 10-Green Enclave Barmuni Road Sunjwan Jammu in case FIR No. 25/2026 under Section 318(4) BNS.

The case pertains to a written complaint received by this investigation agency wherein it was alleged that the accused individual Afaq Ahmad Thug cheated the complainant by promising to supply medicines for his wife, who was suffering from cancer, at a cheaper rate.

It was further alleged that the accused dishonestly induced the complainant to pay lakhs but subsequently failed to supply the medicines as promised. Accordingly, a probe was ordered and during the course of the probe, the allegations leveled in the complaint were substantiated. The accused and complainant were found to have been schoolmates in a boarding school more than 40 years ago. Consequently, upon completion of the investigation, the Charge-sheet has been presented before the Hon’ble Court of Law for Judicial determination in accordance with law.

The Crime Branch has advised the public to remain vigilant against such economic frauds and report any suspicious activities to the SSP, EOW Kashmir. Victims may also lodge complaints through email at [email protected] . (JKNS)
